The year 2010 has seen the rise and fall of many MMO titles including browser based and 3D MMOs. This is an overview that will cover most of the popular titles. Before I begin,i will tell you a little bit about browser based and 3d MMOs. Browser based MMOs are extremely popular because of its addictive gameplay and the ability to enter the game quickly and easily,through your browser. This is what sets browser based games apart. A few examples of popular browser based games are Runescape, Sherwood and a new surprise, Caesary. 3D MMO Game on the other hand are extremely popular and is a world wide hit for Internet users. 3D MMOs such as World of Warcraft draw in millions of players to its amazing graphics and very large community. Most 3D MMOs are free to play but have a cash shop where players get special items. But,2010 isn’t over yet so we move across to the highly anticipated titles. These upcoming games are ones which players are excited for and cant wait to get into. Some of these titles are Final Fantasy 14 Online and Star Wars the Old Republic Online. Major expansions are also announced such as World of Warcraft Cataclysm. This overview will cover games of these three categories and will give you insider information about each one of them.
1.Star Wars:Clone Wars Adventure
Star Wars the Clone Wars is an upcoming MMO that is based on the popular cartoon. The game was developed by SOE, the same company that developed Free Realms and is made for children mainly. It offers hundreds of customizations as well as the ability to play as one of the famous Jedi. It is set in the same world as the cartoon. The game offers hundreds of fun mini games for players to engage in and allows players to connect with friends from around the world. This game is set to be free to play and have an option to pay for the game for more features. There will also be an in game card trading feature, which will allow for players to trade and battle with their cards. This will allow for fun and fast paced combat. The game is also going to be kid friendly, which means parents can put on safety options to ensure that their children have the safest and best experience of the game. This game is set to be released in fall of 2010. May the force be with you.
2.Fist of Fu
Fist of Fu is a free to play MMO brought to us by Outspark, a popular free to play MMO company. Fist of Fu has recently finished closed beta and will be entering open beta soon. It is an arcade styled MMO with a multiplayer storyline and immersive and engaging 3D environment. Players can choose their class and master its skills in martial arts while connecting and having fun with friends. There is also a Player vs Player mode that pits a friend vs friend and friend vs foes in different arenas around this large world. There are three basic classes,each with its own skills. The magician deals the most damage with its long range and powerful attacks, while the archer attacks from hundreds of metres away and kills his enemy before they approach him. The warrior is a melee styles combatant and stays close to his opponents,hitting them deadly blows until they fall. The game is built to run on low end computers,so most people can play the game smoothly. Look out for Fists of Fu by Fall of 2010.
3.Marvel Super Hero Squad Online
In this upcoming free to play MMO, players can team up and assemble squads of superheroes to fight villains and prevent crime! There are hundreds of missions to complete which will allows players to engage in battle and have fun with friends. Each character chosen has his or her own special abilities to use in combat. This game is available on four platforms,the Playstation 2,Wii,DS and computer. Players can finish campaigns as one of six widely popular characters and unlock other characters as they proceed. The ability to unlock new missions,arenas,attacks and make new friends will have many players loving this game,but there is also a player vs players aspect to the game. Superheroes will fight against villains and use combos in dynamic battles. Fighting rooms can have up to 4 players to allow for more brawling. This game is mainly for kids and is in stores now!
4.Soul Master
Soul Master is an MMORTS(Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy) brought to us my Gamescampus. It will become one of the few MMORTSs on the market and will try to bring innovative and fresh designs into games that will set this game apart from all others. The game is set to enter closed beta in June. The game will allow for incredibly fast paces combat as players control a specific hero and hundreds of minions. They will command these units into war and defeat their enemies. There are hundreds of missions for players to complete. The game is squad based and will allow for players to team up together and conquer their foes. There will also be a Player vs Player mode in which enormous battles will take place and players will get reputation in this world. There is also co op missions for players to try out which will get the community closer and players will be able to make more friends. The game will also allow for massive customization of characters that will open the game world and have it more balanced. Soul Master is going into Closed Beta in June, I hope you don’t miss out on this fast paced game.
5.Pet Forest
Pet Forest is an MMO which allows players to tame and control pets. It is a 2D browser based MMO with turn based combat. Players will choose from four classes and explore Ruky Island to its fullest,meeting new friends and foes along the way. Pets are the main focus of the game and these are used to interact with other players and also in combat. There are hundreds of quests with an auto navigator system which directs players to their destination and allows for easier leveling and more fun. As players level up, they gain new skills and abilities which will be used in combat. There are four classes, warrior,who has high defense and acts as a tank. The mage and ranger act as damager dealers but have low defence. The cleric is a simple healer who is strong in defence but very weak in attack. The game is very balanced and for a browser based game,it excels in every aspect. Capturing pets are easy and done very quickly. Try out Pet Forest and you won’t regret it.
6.Cosmic Break
Cosmic Break is a FPS MMORPG that revolves around humans in robotic suits fighting NPCs or other players. The game does have a noticeable amount of Japanese text and audio but that doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay due to subititles. The game keeps a fair pace so it doesn’t drag on or go too quickly for MMO fans. Combat is interesting, with the ability to shoot and get up close and personal using melee attacks. These melee attacks are combined for combos which is always better than button mashing. Factions also had a needed flavor to the game depending on your personal taste of which path you wish your character should take. Levels and boss fights aren’t easy yet they are not impossible to win so the balance involved with the level design was definitely in the mind of the developers when they were making the game. The graphics aren’t very demanding, but they are clear and detailed which is a good thing for those using lower level machines. With all this said, the gameplay is fun and enjoyable and will not disappoint hardcore or regular players as it mixes detailed graphics with amazing gameplay.
7.Noir Online
Noir Online is an adult based MMO which takes players into the underground world of gangs and crime. It is set in China where organized crime reigns supreme,and you are the centrepiece. It takes place during the Westernizing period, where Shanghai was in a chaotic state. The developers have strived for fast paced action and gangster like themes. The player will begin as a peasant and work his way up to the rankings of shot caller and own his empire. This takes time and effort as well as making alliances with other players. This is done very easily through the ‘families’ system. This system allows players to make groups and guilds to fight and work together. Hundreds of weapons are at your disposal as you kill away all who oppose you on your way to the top of the drug trade and crime syndicate. Customization is also a main focus of this game as players can dress their characters in a wide range of clothing. There are also countless amount of skills which allow for faster and more enjoyable combat. The game’s graphics are of top quality but it is optimized,meaning it can run on most PC’s allowing for total enjoyment by all. Make sure to check out this game, as it will take the mmorpg world by storm.
8.Ninja Saga
Ninja Saga is a free browser based MMO set in China. It starts the player off as an adolescent kid who is trying to become a ninja and master the art of combat. The game is currently in Open Beta and is widely popular in Asia. The game combines fun and adventure to give players a unique experience. There are five guardians who are waging war on each other and you are the world’s saviour as you will attempt to bring peace and harmony back to the world. As players level up, they gain new skills and abilities to use in combat. These make the game more exciting. There is also a massive Player vs Player aspect to the game where duels and combat between real life players take place. In this field, players show off their ninja skills to the world and fight for money or other prizes. There are countless amount of monsters to fight against and hundreds of quests to complete, ensuring that players will not get out of this game any time soon. 9.War of Ninja
War of Ninja is a flash game that runs straight out of your browser. Players accept and complete countless missions in their quest to be the best ninja there ever was. These missions give experience points and prizes which are used to gear up characters. When players level up ,they gain certain skills and abilities which are used in both PVP and PVE to annihilate enemies who stand in your path. Players will also form guilds and groups with their friends to defeat opponents. There are countless dungeons which players can complete for extra rewards and bonuses. This adds new flavor to the game. The missions which can be done are unique to this game. Player vs Player also plays an important part in this game as you will gain reputation after victories. Another great part of this game is that the help interface is very neat and well built so new players can feel right at home. The game does feel like other browser based games though,but it is unique in the player vs player aspect and can keep players engrossed in this game for weeks and even months. 10.World of Tanks
World of Tanks is a popular team based MMO entering closed beta very soon. It is set in the World War II environment where you are the controller of a tank and must defeat enemies in multiple exciting missions. It follows history very closely and you control tanks of Germany,America and the Soviet Union. Customization in this game is limitless as players will use rewards to upgrade their weapons and tanks. The game is a mixture of simulation and RPG elements which uses strategy to make it stand out. All these elements combine to make an explosive action based game. New players are sent onto the battlefield immediately, either combating other computer controlled opponents or fighting against real enemies. The player vs Player factor in this game is out of this world and there are many epic tank clashes. The game also requires deep squad based tactics. Players are on teams and must combat their opponents as a team, otherwise there will be no success. PVE is another major part of this game as players set out on their journey to conquer the world, leveling up and collecting new items as they go on. All in all, World of Tanks proves to a fresh game that we should look forward to.
11.Heroes of Kung Fu
Heroes of Kung Fu is a web based MMO that is published by WebMMO. The story is based on the feudal war in China many years ago. Players align to one of seven nations and serve them with all their might, defeating all in their path. Each nation has its own positives and attributes which will tip the game in their favor. As players continue on their journey, there are three professions which can be unlocked, the spear, the dagger and the sword. These weapons are used in combat and can be upgraded through a well developed crafting system. The economy is an important part of Heroes of Kung Fu as players trade their supplies with thousands of others to diversify their city. The PVP in Heroes of Kung Fu is endless as there are many modes for PVP. PVP events are help weekly by staff to allow players to fight and reap the rewards of their victories. The community in Heroes of Kung Fu is extremely helpful and there are many guides to help new players in their quest to becoming the hero of their nation. Heroes of Kung Fu is another successful and well developed browser based MMO that is certainly worth a try.
